THE ANAGAMA WORKSHOP The Adamah kiln is a 20 foot long, anagama style wood fired kiln with a second catenary arch chamber. The kiln is designed by the builder David Smith, and is located at Art Ventures in Dodgeville, Wisconsin. On November 8-21 of 2010 an extended firing workshop will be presented by Ken Bichell of Dubuque, Iowa along with guest artists; Jeff Diehl from West Virginia, Bill Farrell from Illinois, and Kate Maury from Wisconsin. A presentation on the history, design, loading, and firing of the wood fired kiln will be given prior to the loading and firing of the kiln. The kiln will fire for 8 days with the primary emphasis being on natural ash accumulation. Rice hulls and seashells will be utilized in the stack. Slips and glazes for participant use will be available at the Adamah Studio. The kiln will be unloaded on the 27th of November. Arrangements can be made for those unable to return for unloading, to have their work shipped to them for a handling and shipping fee.

PARTICIPANTS The workshop is open to participants of all levels. The kiln will be fired to accommodate work from cone 3-11(PLEASE HAVE EACH PIECE LABELED WITH IT’S CONE #) The majority of the work will be in the cone 9-11 range. Participants may bring 20 cubic feet of pottery for firing. Bringing extra work is encouraged as there will likely be additional space. Work can be brought green or biscuit fired. Liner glazes may be utilized but please do not glaze exteriors as the kiln will be tumble stacked. Slipping exterior surfaces is acceptable. Involvement in the firing is as little or as great as desired. Food and lodging packages can be arranged specific to participant needs.

COST $380 per person plus individualized food and lodging package.

FOOD AND LODGING The food and lodging options are varied and can be arranged to participants specific needs. A special discount on lodging has been arranged for this workshop. Please see registration form for specifics.

We understand that not everyone will be able to commit to the entire length of the workshop. Whatever level you desire to participate at is fine. We do strongly encourage that participants try and be in attendance for the guest artists presentation and at least part of the loading and firing.
